How do you know it’s fall?  Is it the arrival of Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Starbucks?  A date on the calendar?  Changing leaves?  A drop in temperature, perhaps?  I see how any of those things cold be telltale signs of fall.  For me, I know it’s fall when I start making Apple Crisp!

If you’re after a super buttery, super sweet, brown-sugar-laden apple crisp, this is not it.  I’m giving it to you straight because we’re friends, and that’s what friends do.  Straight talk.  Buuutttt, before you run off in the other direction, here me out.

It’s no secret that I love sweets.  Well, I also kind of love eating healthy.  I try to balance the two.  It doesn’t always happen, but I try.  It can’t be all butter and sugar, all the time…sometimes that means taking my favorite fall Apple Crisp and lightening it up.  Stay with me….I promise it’s totally worth it.  You’re going to love this dessert.

A good crisp is all about the topping!  Crunchy, toasted oats, warm cinnamon spice, nutty pecans and a hint of sweetness.  Check, check, check aaaaaand, check.

Try using a mixture of apples, like cortland, empire & honey crisp for maximum flavor.

I’m not gluten-free, but I’ve decided to cut down, so this would be perfect. What a beautiful fall dessert!

This was amazing! I made this tonight since it is cold out. Perfect side to a big pot of soup. I made this using maple syrup instead of honey and it came out perfectly. Thanks for sharing this recipe!
