Add some serious flavor to your steak with this red wine-soy sauce marinade.
This right here is one of the reasons I cannot ever be vegetarian. I love a good steak waaayyyyy too much! I only eat red meat every couple weeks, but man do I love it!
I never used to cook steak at home. Like, ever. It wasn’t even on my radar. I ate it at restaurants and when I was visiting my parents and had the chance to fire up their grill. Huge mistake. Huuuggeeee. I can’t make up for lost steak-eating time, but hopefully I can prevent you from falling into the same trap.
I had a list of reasons why I didn’t cook steak at home. And by reasons, I mean excuses. It was silly. If we’re being honest here, the real reason I didn’t indulge my tastebuds with something as wonderous as Red Wine Marinated Flank Steak was because I wasn’t entirely sure of how to cook it or how long to cook the meat. I know what you’re thinking….Kelli, why didn’t you just turn to your BFF Google…that’s where all the answers are. I know, you’re right. Simple solution. But here’s the other lame part, at the time, cooking steak at home was sort of new and uncharted territory and I was scared of failing. So, instead of trying, I missed out on a lot of good meat over the past 10+ years. Thankfully that’s all behind me know.
It’s as easy as this…fire up your cast iron skillet or grill pan, get it really hot, seared your flank steak on one side, flip and sear it on the other side.
There are a few go-to recipes every cook needs to have no hand – a great recipe for simple roast chicken (this is coming your way soon!), an impressive dessert that’s deceptively easy to make (please excuse the horrendous photos), classic chocolate chip cookies and of course, a trusty, flavor-packed steak marinade.
This go-to marinade combines red wine (I usually use pinot noir or cabernet, but you can use what you have open), soy sauce, garlic and chopped onion. For maximum flavor marinate your steak for about 24 hours. But, even if you only have a couple hours, you’ll be wowed about the well rounded, savory flavors in every bite of meat.
