Have I ever told you about how much I love avocados?!  Love them like crazy!  Love, love, love, love!!  And strawberries, well, they make me feel the exact same way!  I’m absolutely smitten with these deep red berries.  Eating an entire basket in one sitting….piece of cake.  So, clearly it made sense to throw them together in the blender (along with a few other goodies) for a Strawberry Avocado Smoothie!

But, before we talk more about the smoothie that’s currently rocking my mornings, I want to tell you a little bit about what’s rocking my week….a trail running trip around Panama!  I have a feeling most people probably wouldn’t think of this as a vacation, but it’s my kind of vacation.  My week is more scheduled than when I’m home and at work, it’s jam packed with action & adventure and I’m loving every single second of it!!  I’m spending this week with a super-fun group of runners; we’re starting every day with a trail race (except for the day we hike up a volcano), as we travel across Panama, making our way from Panama City to the island region of Bocas Del Toro.  In between running & traveling, we’ll also fit in some hiking, waterfall repelling, snorkeling and we’ll hopefully sneack in a few minutes of beach time at the end of the week.  I did a similar trip a couple years ago in Ecuador and it was an absolute blast, so I can’t wait to see all the fun this trip will bring!  I’ll have a full recap and LOTS of photos to share with you when I get back to New York!

Ok, back to Strawberry Avocado Smoothies!  This drink has me really excited for summer – it’s cool, refreshing and no doubt it’s going to be especially delicious after my morning runs and bike rides when the temperatures start rising.  Heck, even if the temperatures aren’t on the rise yet, this blend of strawberries, avocado and spinach, will start your day on the right foot.

Strawberry Avocado Smoothie

Yield: Serves 2

  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 cup baby spinach
  • 1 cup strawberries, halved
  • 1 avocado, skin & pit removed

Kelli – Every time you post, I’m thinking – that’s exactly what I want today! Will definitely give one a try. I never would have though to combine two great loves – avocados and strawberries (three if you count spinach)! Love your smoothie recipes! Have you done a variation of this one with kale yet? Does it work?

Thanks Karen…you’re always so sweet! So happy I’m good at reading your mind, or rather, your stomach :) Kale is one of my favorite smoothie ingredients, and can definitely be used as a substitute for the spinach in this smoothie!

Sooooooo delicious. I too have an obsessive love affair with avocados! Have a blast in Panama!

This sounds delicious, love all the ingredients but would never have thought of putting them together in a smoothie. Super healthy too :)

I know, right! As tasty as they are on their own, they’re even better together :)

I’m new to healthy smoothies. This was my very 1st time using avocado. This was very good. I will make it again. I may even try Ashley’s mix in the above post. Thanks for sharing

Sounds tasty, cant wait to try it. If you have a good blender , no need to cut the strawberries at all ,just add them whole for extra nutrients!!

Hi Kelli. This sounds like something I will definitely try. I, too, love all of the ingredients listed. I was wondering, though, if I could use frozen strawberries when I can’t get fresh ones.

Kelli August 19, 2013 at 1:53 PM

You can definitely use frozen strawberries, Lucy! That would also give your smoothie a great icy texture!

This is my first smoothie like this… I used Kale (also a first for me). It is DELICIOUS!!!!

Kelli December 10, 2013 at 10:32 AM

Hooray…so pumped you liked it!! Kale in smoothies is my fave!

I have a huge glass of this sitting next to me right now and I must say I like it! I wasn’t sure how it would taste but was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t do this but was curious if peanut butter would be good in it….

Kelli January 6, 2014 at 1:03 PM

Hooray, I’m so glad you like it, Natosha! I’ve never added peanut butter to this smoothie, but give it a try!

Robyn February 21, 2014 at 2:50 AM

I used blueberries instead of the recommended strawberries! it was just delicious!

Kelli February 21, 2014 at 1:40 PM

I LOVE the blueberry swap, Robyn…such a great idea! I will definitely have to try it.

I have to be honest here and I don’t want to insult you but I don’t want other people wasting ingredients like I did. This smoothie was not good and I was very excited about it. Just a heads up .

Kelli September 22, 2014 at 2:06 PM

Sorry to hear you didn’t like it, Sarah. It’s definitely not for everyone.
