Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe | MyRecipes

So, we’re one week out from Christmas…have you had your fill of cookies?

Confession…I came reeeeeally close to cookie burnout last weekend! Not making them, but eating them. Oh, heavens! I definitely pushed the limit on how many Christmas cookies I can eat in a sitting…..it was not pretty.

Thankfully, I managed to rally and I’m back to nibbling on my favorite holiday treats.

I hope you can hang on for this one last batch of cookies I’m bringing your way today! Chocolate Crackle Cookies, or, maybe you call them chocolate crinkle cookies….tomato-tomato. Either way, these rich, chocolately cookies have been one of my holiday favorites for about as long as I can remember.

31 Best Chocolate Gifts to Give This Holiday Season 2022: Godiva ...

I feel obligated to tell you that these cookies are a little messy to make. Ok, maybe more like, a lot messy. It’s the rolling the cookie dough into balls bit. Your hands will get covered in chocolate dough. And, you might find yourself washing your hands more than a few times during this process.

It can be helpful to pop the dough in the freezer for a few minutes before you begin this process. It won’t eliminate the mess, but it will help a little. Using a cookie scoop can also be helpful.

But, one bite of these Chocolate Crackle Cookies makes that gooey mess 110% totally worth it.

Aside from the mega dose of chocolate you get with these cookies, what I love most about Chocolate Crackles is the texture. These cookies have a delicate, ever-so-slightly crisp exterior and a soft, fudgy interior.

Best Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe - How To Make Chocolate ...

Most recipes for Chocolate Crackle Cookies call for rolling the cookie dough in just confectioners’ sugar. And, that’s actually the way I made mine for many years. This recipe takes it up a notch, rolling the dough in granulated sugar first, then in confectioners’ sugar.

So, why the extra sugar coating? Two reasons.

The granulated sugar is really what gives the outside of the cookie that delicate crunch factor. And, most importantly, it helps more confectioners’ sugar adhere to the cookies.

Chocolate Crackle Cookies Ingredients

Chocolate Crackle Cookies Instructions

  1. Use a double boiler, or place a heat-proof bowl over a pan of simmering water. Add the chocolate, and melt over medium heat. Set aside to cool.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment (or using an electric hand mixer), beat butter and light-brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla, and beat until well combined. Add in the melted chocolate. With the mixer on low, alternate between adding the dry ingredients and milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients, until just combined.
  4. Divide the dough into quarters, wrap with plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator until firm, about 2 hours.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  6. Remove the dough from the refrigerator. Scoop dough and roll into 1-inch balls (you can also use a small cookie scoop). Roll the dough in granulated sugar so that the entire ball of cookie dough is coated. Then roll the dough in confectioner's sugar.
  7. Place the cookies 2 inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes, until the cookies have flattened and the sugar splits.
  8. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
  9. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
